Edith Hildegard DeSimone, née Kanter, was born in Lichterfelde, Germany in 1929. As a child, she witnessed the rise of Hitler, which divided her family, her town, her nation, and ultimately, the world. She never forgot her experiences during the war, especially those that led to the death of family members and friends. She felt a great responsibility to share her account of the horrors of war with the next generation.
Edith passed away at the age of 91 in Concord, Massachusetts on March 8, 2021.
